What feminism is.

This is my college class, Wellesley 2003, rehearsing for our graduation ceremony.

I drew on memories of Wellesley to write this piece about feminism. The backstory: VQR had been running a series called “What Is Feminism?“, and I was annoyed with its premise. I tweeted, “I guess VQR knows its demographic with this series, but it’s not me.” That’s a borderline troll-ish way to register protest, but to her great credit, VQR‘s online editor Jane Friedman asked me to elaborate on my comment. I did via email. She invited me to expand my comments into a post that would close the series. I’m really proud of what resulted.
