M is for Magnolia.

It’s the symbol of my baby niece Laxmi, almost one year old. My sister Clare chose it for her. I thought it thrilling and radical, given that Laxmi is an autumn baby, and magnolias are the heart of spring.

Happy almost-birthday, dear one. Below is Laxmi, fresh-born, with her Abuela.
