You look so disappointed in me, Robert. But I tried, I really did.

I got about halfway through your book before realizing that it was doing me about as much good as reading the phone book. As far as I can tell, here’s what I can take away about the writing and appreciation of poetry:

(1) Write what sounds good to you.

(2) Like what you like.

…and I knew that already.

But I’m grateful, again, for the opportunity to try. Now for a good novel. I think a vintage Mary Renault will do nicely.
